Brazil as a key player

The US is trying to contain Brazil by creating conflicts on its border, argues Uruguayan analyst, Raúl Zibechi.

altBrazil is now a big league player. In the decade in which it begins its ascent, the country is so important that it is forcing its main competitor in the region, the United States, to redesign its foreign policy to take into consideration Brazil's prominence, a tactic that might destabilize all of Latin America.

Brazil: The World’s New Global Titans

“The new global titans to emerge from the Great Credit Crash of 2008-2009 don’t lie in the industrialized economies,” says Investment Director Eric Roseman.
“Rather, the new leaders will emerge from advanced emerging market countries like China and Brazil whose economic infrastructure and domestic consumption have remained relatively resilient since the emergence of the credit squeeze 19 months ago.”

Fact: The U.S. Debt and Stimulus Is Simply Not Sustainable:
Question: What Happens When Interest Payments Crowd Out Defense and Entitlements?

FreeVideoCoding.com

Niall Ferguson, author of The Ascent of Money: A Financial History of the World, has been commenting lately that the U.S. government should be hearing alarm bells, given the rising debt and stimulus programs. In contrast, mainstream economists like Paul Krugman have been saying that if the U.S. doesn’t stimulate more quickly and aggressively, it will fall into another depression or deeper downturn. Ferguson’s point of view from looking at history clearly is superior, from our perspective. He notes that most great empires and dominant economies fall rapidly in years or decades, rather than slowly, due to financial stresses from their increasingly over-extended empires.

The Facts Point Towards Insolvency

James Dale Davidson and Lord William Rees-Mogg also made this argument in The Great Reckoning: How the World Will Change in the Depression of the 1990s (1991). Think about the Soviet Union, which suddenly lost its power after 1989, just after withdrawing from a failed war in Afghanistan. Likewise, Japan went from the strongest up-and-coming economy in the world to, suddenly, a “dead” economy from 1990 on. Japan is now surpassed by China as the number two economy in the world. How to Free Yourself from 9-5 and Live Anywhere

Quit the Rat Race and Get a Life

Just the other day, a friend of mine finally asked the question that’s probably burning in the minds of most of my friends: “I don’t get it.” she began, “how can you afford to just pick up and travel around for months on end?”  How do you make money and how can I have your lifestyle?”  She works as a postal carrier and dreads every day of it.

“It’s not that I don’t work,” I explained, “it’s just that I only choose to do the type of work that is portable and mobile.  I also look for ways to integrate my travels into money-making ventures which is not as difficult as you think”.

Three Realizations

She was listening intently so I continued, “There are three realizations you have to make to achieve a mobile lifestyle like mine. The first is to realize that real change starts within you and depends entirely on the choices and decisions you make. The second is to limit your work efforts to something that can be done from anywhere.  The third is that while our “developed” economies stagnate, the rest of the world is booming and there are plenty of opportunities outside your home borders.”

ROUSSEFF, BRAZIL'S PRES-ELECT SPEAKS ON CURRENCY WAR / CHINA INVESTS HEAVILY IN BRAZIL

Rousseff speaks on the currency war

November 2, 2010 5:10pm
by Barney Jopson

Dilma Rousseff, Brazil’s president-elect, has made her first comments on the “currency war” since winning Sunday’s election. This is the war in which Brazil’s outgoing finance minister told us the world was engaged and Rousseff, broadly speaking, stuck to the policy line he set out.
In separate television interviews, she said that “manipulating” exchange rates cannot resolve anything, that she would not do anything that “created confusion”, and that international organisations such as the G20 should be strong enough to “force certain countries” to value their currencies realistically.
We can only gather from those words that she does not view as problematic the kind of capital controls introduced - and recently tightened - by the government of her mentor, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Continuity is the watchword, but her comments leave plenty of questions unanswered. When she makes her international debut at the G20 meeting in Seoul next week, alongside Lula, she will no doubt deal with some of them.

Now that Ben Bernanke has re-introduced quantitative easing (QE2) to a mostly incredulous world and, across the ocean, the Eurozone has begun unraveling again, our thoughts should turn to the parlous state of the world and the risks ahead.

These are amazing times and seem to grow more so every day. Policy errors are popping up everywhere and are likely to multiply dramatically as the political problems are serious, answers hard to find, and the decision makers are not up to the task. Bernanke has proven that he is more a college professor and less a trader, which will cost the world dearly.

Sometime between June and August Bernanke lost his stomach for the “exit strategy,” probably influenced by

PERMANENT VISAS IN BRAZIL

Permanent Visas in Brazil

By Jose Santiago
Immigration visas to Brazil will be granted only to applicants who satisfy special requirements established by the Brazilian National Immigration Council or the Ministry of Labor. In principle, there are seven cases in which a foreigner can obtain a permanent residence visa in Brazil:

1. The administrator, manager or director of a professional or business corporation
This category is designed to cover inter-company transfers. Thus, the applicant must already be employed outside of Brazil by the parent company or by an affiliate or subsidiary of the company that proposes to employ him inside Brazil. However, there is no minimum time for that previous employment. Necessary documents for the first step will include:

  • Proof that the applicant is employed outside Brazil by the parent company, or an affiliate or subsidiary of the Brazilian hiring company;

The Future of Latin America: Opportunities and Challenges for U.S. Policy in the Hemisphere

Today, I spoke to the students, faculty, and staff from Central Connecticut State University, including members of their Latin American Association and the Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Center. I laid out my vision for the future of U.S -- Latin America relations, calling for a fundamental shift in the United States' Latin American policy to reflect the region's changing economy and evolving democracy.

The Future of Latin America: Opportunities and Challenges for U.S. Policy in the Hemisphere:

I've been a Senator for a long time--but I've been passionate about Latin America for an even longer time.
In 1966, I arrived in the rural village of Moncion in the Dominican Republic as a volunteer for the Peace Corps. Today, nearly half a century later, I'm the chairman of the Senate subcommittee responsible for Latin American policy.

In between, I've had the privilege to take part in the implementation of the Guatemala City accord, lead the US-Mexico Senate Interparliamentary Group, and work to bring Latin American issues to the forefront of our foreign policy agenda.

And, in that time, Latin America has undergone remarkable change--much of it positive.
In a part of the world long defined by violent political instability and crushing poverty, we are seeing the development of a new middle class, the consolidation of democracy, the propagation of effective fiscal and social policies, and the rise of new global powers.

HOW MUCH MONEY DOES ONE NEED TO MOVE TO BRAZIL?

Great question.  How can one truly answer that though without taking into account your personal lifestyle and cost of living.  While many things are cheaper in Brazil (such as real estate) certain luxuries that you may be used to are also more expensive.  Overall though Brazil is much less expensive then the United States in my opinion $2,000 USD per month is more than enough money to have a good life in Brazil.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Sunday has been the day of victory for Dilma Rousseff, who is elected Brazil’s next president to succeedLuiz Inácio Lula da Silva, after beating her rival José Serra by over ten points in the run-off round of the presidential elections.

Dilma Rousseff, who is elected Brazil's first female president this Sunday, cast her vote in Porte Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul before flying to Brasília, photo by Wilson Dias/ABr.

After failing to secure the absolute majority of the votes in the first round of elections on October 3rd, which sent the race to the second round, Lula’s protégée Dilma has secured 56 percent of the votes as opposed to Serra’s 44 percent, and will be Brazil’s first female president when she takes office on January 1st, 2011.

The elections, in which 99.1 million valid ballots were cast, began at 8AM in the morning, and the vote count started after the last ballots closed at 7PM. The Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) has called the

PayBox is a website which offers you $50 to sign up, up to $20 per day and $5 for each referral. It appears that they are trying to develop a company similar to “Paypal” or “AlertPay”. They offer services such as currency exchange, person-to-person transactions, and payment processing. PayBox offers $20 a day.
